In a recent article on Web content, MarketingProfs argued the point that a small typo on your Web site can have a big impact on how customers perceive your business. The reason, they claim, is that "many people associate typos with phishers and con artists," making them suspicious when they see misspelled words on a Web page. No one is demanding perfection from a Web site, obviously, but it's timely advice, as we are soon to head into the biggest shopping period of the year, when people are turning to search engines to help them find the perfect gifts. So here are three simple steps to make sure your listing page presents your best face to the world: 1) Spell-check: a quick and easy method is to highlight the text and copy-and-paste it into a word processing program to find any misspelled words, but don’t forget to check proper nouns like your business name, street address, products and/or services, etc. 2) Proofread: a spell-checker won’t catch an old phone number or a misspelled link to your Web site, nor will it catch simple mix-ups like “your/you’re,” “there/their/they’re,” or “it’s/its.” And as the image above illustrates, a missing comma may seem harmless enough, but can dramatically change your meaning! Read through carefully and make sure the info is up-to-date, and says what you mean. 3) Upload a logo: Having your logo on your listing page gives customers confidence, and helps you stand out. Not only do customers know they have found the right business, but your logo replaces stock industry photos in the results listing on Seek And Find searches. To upload your logo:
- After logging in to your account, click on the Logo tab from the Edit Entry page.
- Click on the Browse button to select the image on your computer (in .jpg, .gif, or .png format, with a 2MB size limit).
- Check the Terms & Conditions box and click the red Save button.
Your logo will appear right under your business name, as well as in Seek And Find search results. So take FIVE minutes and make sure you give customers the best first impression of your business! |
